History
The Zege Peninsula is situated on the North-Western shore of the Tana lake in Ethiopia. The lake is the largest in the country and from it the Blue Nile begins. The peninsula is famous for its unique monasteries, established in the XIV-XVII centuries, as well as its dense tropical forests. In spite of the fact that Zege is not among Ethiopia’s most famous coffee regions, coffee is grown there since forever. In the green forests 1,850 meters above sea level, coffee trees grow in the wild and the harvesting period is from February to March. The locals consider coffee as sacred and blessed.
Technology
The coffee beans are harvested by local producers in the Zege forests. The natural process of freshly-picked coffee fruit drying on the direct sunlight is known as natural processing.
